April Newsletter
THE WINCHESTER CLUB
NEWSLETTER APRIL 2023
We wish you all a Very Happy Easter!
At last everything in the garden is beginning to look like it should, especially the weeds, which are thriving in mine! April is the month when we look forward to so many things, Bowls will be up and running and the weather will be warmer and drier!!
News from the Committee is mainly concerning the many bills that come with the upkeep of an old building such as ours. We are continuing to get more new members each month. The issue of the disabled toilet is a major one and as you know has been rumbling on for a few years now. The main problem apart from money is, where do we put it!!! We are getting closer to getting a defibrillator, which I personal think is a good idea. The flags will be going up soon, so if anyone wants to volunteer please let us know. A copy of the Minutes of the AGM are on the notice boards for you to view.
We welcome new members to the Committee and wait with anticipation to see what each of them will bring to the table! They are...Richard Smith, Nik Hancock, Fred Broomfield, Vicky Sara, and Donna Stroud.
Please can I remind car users that permits must be displayed and the car park is only for your use when you are actually in the Club. Also would you please use your Club Membership Cards to purchase drinks as much as possible. You can easily put money on to the card over the bar. It really is as simple as that.
Our March Skittles Evening arranged by Colin Day was another success. Food provided by Mike and Fiona was as usual very good! Unfortunately the Ladies lost...not by many I hasten to add. We look forward to the next Skittles night!!!

We are pleased to see Mike making a good recovery after his stay in Hospital. We missed you Mike!
Now the 70’s Duo (Ant and Dave) when they were here last asked as many of you that could, to come in 70’s gear!!! So come get those psychedelic t.shirts, dresses, ban the bomb necklaces out of the back of that cupboard. Or maybe your Abba gear! Prize for the best costume seen on the floor of the Churchill Room.
Coronation Weekend......Saturday May 6th.
We will be televising the Coronation in the Churchill Rooms. Prosseco and Pimms will be on sale at the Bar. Come along bring a picnic and enjoy.
In the evening we will be presenting The Flash Back Trio.
To end the Coronation Week we will be having a Eurovision Party in the Churchill Room. Eurovision will be streamed on to the big screen. We will have Eurovision Bingo and make sure you charge your phones because we will have a Photo Booth. Please book a table well in advance and let us know how many at your table!
I know that the Entertainment last month was not liked by quite a few. I have written to the Agent and received an apology. I suggest that if you want to hear in advance what an act sounds like, then try YouTube or Facebook. I can only apologise for your disappointment, good job you didn’t have to pay wasn’t it!
3rd June........Andy Kennett is back.
1st July.........New Era.........well known here and much missed.
5th August....Summer Ball...2Shea....Lynsey and Gary seem to be favourites with a lot of you!
That’s about it for April. Not too many Easter Eggs remember, summers coming and you want to look your best on the beach!!!
Sandie.
