THE WINCHESTER CLUB
AUGUST 2023 NEWSLETTER
The months are flying by, and August brings our last Bank Holiday. There is an old motto;
‘If the 24th August be fair and clear.
Then hope for a prosperous Autumn that year’
Let’s hope the 24th is warm and dry!!!
COMMITTEE NEWS
Work has started on the roof, and we apologise for any disruption. The air-condition unit fell off the wall in the cellar. However thanks to Chris Hooton everything has now been replaced and all is back to normal. So a great big ‘Thank You” goes to Chris for his help. The ice machine was another problem….it of course broke down…..but now sorted! So it’s just another round of problems for Chick, Len and Rob….thank goodness we have them at the helm.
The Bar Staff along with Rob have decided on their Uniform, and we hope they will be wearing them within the month.
Nik is doing a great job keeping our wonderful hanging baskets and tubs looking picture perfect. Thanks Nik!
There have been quite a few comments regarding the increase in swearing in the Market Bar. Please remember that we are a Club and we respect all members.
We appreciate our Members making comments but please remember they have to be signed and not by Donald Duck!
ENTERTAINMENT
26th August……..…Haycee…...please book at the bar for food
£10 Members £12 Members Guest
2nd September……2Shae……..Summer Ball. Tickets will be on sale 7th Aug.
BOOKING FOOD
We have several music nights booked for the rest of the year. Most of them will include food…..we would ask you to please book earlier than you may have in the past. I have to hold my hand up to being ‘a late booker’ but I am not alone! It does help Mike and Fiona with their numbers.
The 26th August is a ‘food night’, so please order your food and pay your £10 at the bar before Wednesday 23 August.
Raffles
If anyone has anything they would like to donate to our Raffles then I am sure Eileen would appreciate them! I don’t know if you are aware that we donate a proportion of our Raffle Takings to Charity.
Our chosen Charity this year is the Hampshire and IOW Air Ambulance. We recently donated £1000.00 to the Winchester Hospice.
QUIZ NIGHTS
The quiz nights have not been well attended so whether or not we continue remains to be seen. It takes a lot of work to compile a Quiz! Sue will be doing the Quiz on Wednesday 9th August. September has yet to be decided.
