September Newsletter
THE WINCHESTER CLUB
SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER

I know it is September, and the leaves are beginning to turn and the nights are drawing in….but according to the Met. Office, Autumn doesn’t begin until 23rd September. So is that why lovely warm sunny September days are called an Indian Summer?

News from the Committee.
We are purchasing an indoor Defibrillator, which we hope will be with us shortly. The Staff uniforms have been ordered and should be with us this week! Repairs are continuing on our poor old building! The ‘TO DO LIST’ never seems to reach an end. We are still getting new members….where are they….do they disappear into the darkness of the snooker room never to reappear? Not a lot this month!!

BOWLS
News from Colin.
All our Southampton and District League Matches are now finished.
Our ‘Ladies” had mixed results in their return to League Matches but looking forward to next year. Our ‘Men’ finished second to bottom in the ‘Championship League’ but finished Second (Runners Up) in the ‘Combination League’.
This coming weekend 2nd & 3rd September is our Club Championship Finals. Then on Monday 4th a ‘Home ‘ Friendly with Visitors..Plesseys from the Isle of Wight. Also on the following Monday afternoon -11th, another ‘Friendly’ with visitors, again from the Isle of Wight…The County President’s Tour. On Sunday 17th, it’s our ‘Pauline Cleary’ annual Competition, then to finish our 2023 season, it’s our ‘Closing of The Green’ Fun Afternoon on 24th September.
So there we have it a busy ending to the season.

The Bowls Ladies Day brought awful weather, so as a back up they had a Quiz organised by Linda Jacobs which went down well! Thank You Linda for saving the Day.

RUGBY
The Rugby World Cup starts on 8th September.
Showing on the Big Screen in The Churchill Room.

ENTERTAINMENT
The news that 2Shae had split up come as a complete shock to me. I know a lot of you enjoyed their music. We wish Linsey and Gary all the best for the future. Those of you have enjoyed seeing Ant and Dave will see more of them in the next few months as they have stepped into the void left by 2Shae. Haycee.. the Brother and Sister Duo we had on Bank Holiday Weekend were Brilliant. They are fairly local and tell me their Dad used to play here at the Club.

2nd September……….Dave Howes ….Dave is one half of Ant and Dave
14th October ………Cloud 9
28th October ………The Jays………Halloween Fright Night
18th November ……..The Roxy Trio
23rd December ………Ant and Dave
31st December ………Ant and Dave
(That’s not a typo…we are lucky enough to get them for our Club Party as well as New Year’s Eve…so lots of fun).

The Committee have decided that we will go back to two music nights a month depending on what bookings we already have.

QUIZ NIGHTS

I’m still not sure about September as I haven’t seen Sue. October is a definite!

Finally….an apology….in last months Newsletter I asked for any unwanted gifts that could be used in our Music Night Specials Raffles. Eileen doesn’t need any! Maybe Bowls or the Christmas Raffle would benefit. I will let you know in the next Newsletter.

That’s all, have a lovely September!
Sandie.
