October Newsletter
THE WINCHESTER CLUB
OCTOBER 2023 NEWSLETTER
Have you ever wondered why October isn’t the eighth month? Well many moons ago there were only 10 months in a year. In 700 B.C, Numa added January and February to the Calendar…..

NEWS FROM THE COMMITTEE.
As usual it’s good and not so good! Takings were good, expenditure not so good. As you know we had to have part of the roof and the ceiling in the Highfield room repaired. Those two plus the Club insurance made a rather
large hole in the bank balance. It had to be done….one of the pitfalls of an old building. However we are still solvent and with the backing of ALL our members we will continue. Membership is still rising, which is very encouraging. We are aware of the Car Parking Problem. Parking is reserved for Members only. With the exception of a few Cars which pay a monthly fee.
The Cattle Market Car Park is NOT an inner City Car Park and therefore parking is free all day Sunday, and Monday-Saturday free between 6pm-8am.
Also, the first hour is free by pushing the green button.
You can pay via the RinGo app which once you get the hang of it is very easy, even I can do it!! Incidentally I double checked on the Internet just to make sure.
The rickety old side gate gives you a quicker access to the Club.

Reminders…..please, please use your Club Card when ordering and paying at the bar. Guests must be signed in and only two visits per guest in any one month. Suggestions must be signed and placed in the Box in the Lounge, unsigned ones will not be accepted. Please report anything that needs attention either to the Bar Staff who will enter it into a Book or a signed slip of
paper placed into the Box.
Slight delay on Uniforms! They will appear one day. Defibrillator has arrived along with a problem!
Hopefully that will be sorted quickly!!
Some ‘Thank You’s” from all of us:
To Nik Hancock……Thank You for tending our beautiful flowers and for your amazing line painting!
To Rosemary……….Thank You for your wonderful decorating skills assisted by Pete and Eileen.
To Chris Ralph……..Thank You for all your hard work, done with a cheery smile and the odd word or two. One day you will get to the bottom of that list Chris!
