October Newsletter
THE WINCHESTER CLUB
OCTOBER NEWSLETTER 2026.

October has breezed in bringing solemn news for the Club. As no doubt the Jungle Drums have been spreading the News, let me just clarify it.
Yes, it is true!! Both Chick and Len, announced that they would be standing down as Secretary and Treasurer at the AGM. (Date to be arranged) They broke their news at the last Committee Meeting on 26th September. I think is fair to say that we were completely stunned! They have done a marvellous job over the years to make sure the Club has stayed solvent, especially during Covid and will be a hard duo to follow. So now we will be looking to fill three important roles (Including a President) within the Club. As you know the roles are Voluntary as are all Committee Members. Chick and Len are in the Club at least three times a week, as well as other times for other things. You will find details for a Treasurer (in our case a Treasure) at the end of this Newsletter.

It seems as if it’s all gloom and doom in the world as well as in the Club……BUT we have two brilliant acts to cheer us up this October. We have new bar stools and new tables and next year we will be replacing some outside furniture. Hopefully we will look into extending the Market Bar (when the Churchill Room is not booked) by installing a Folding Wall. The Committee are fully aware of the Churchill Rooms decline and hopefully will manage to come to a decision before the AGM.

It seems that Members still haven’t been able to complete the Guest Book when they bring Guests in! PLEASE complete the signing in by putting full names and addresses. A squiggle for a signature is not acceptable. Maybe put your Club Number as well! It is important that the book is kept up to date.

ENTERTAINMENT.

There are a small handful of very kind folk who have sent me suggestions for Entertainment. Thank you! I was hoping to get a skittles night in before the end of the year, but so far no luck.
We will have the Pocket Rockers back next year for sure. I am keen to have a Dolly Night, but it’s hard finding a good artist and a reasonable price. As for the games….well Vic is organising a Traitors night. So, let’s see how that goes and then we will go from there. I need a GOOD Country and Western Group…anyone got any suggestions? The Covergirlz were great, given that Sara was partly in her wheelchair. It didn’t stop them from performing. Have any Members tried “SING FOR FUN”? Think they are here once a week, its paid group but worth thinking about.
